Hello, world! I go by Dave, and I’ve got a thing for tech.
Today marks a new adventure for me, as I step into unexplored territory. As someone who’s genuinely passionate about technology, I’ve taken quite the journey — embracing tech in all its forms, from usage and installation to management, both the love and, let’s be honest, a bit of frustration with various products. This journey has gifted me with a solid understanding of the world of smart technology. During this expedition, I’ve crossed paths with a range of products, each contributing to my growing knowledge:
- Nest (Alphabet)
- Google Nest
- Apple Home
- Smartthings (Samsung)
- Ring
- Eve
- Philips Hue
- Homebridge
- Sonos
- Ecobee
- Starling
- Airthings
- IKEA Home
- Alexa
- Shark
- Kasa
- IOCare
- Withings
- Arlo
- Wasserstein
- Orbit
- Iris (by Lowe’s) — Discontinued
- Wemo (by Belkin)
- Lutron
- Sylvania (Osram)
- myQ (Chamberlain)
- Durablow
- Leviton
- innr
- and more…
I firmly believe technology’s core purpose is to bridge disparate worlds and to create a more leveled playing field for everyone involved, rather than corrupting our inherent human nature. Its role, in my view, is centered on fostering connections and preventing isolation. I firmly believe that tech companies hold a significant responsibility in this regard. Their focus should encompass crafting products that are accessible and centered around human needs, always with security at heart. Additionally, a full commitment to the environment, involving the use of renewable energy and recycled materials, is imperative. And, we the users, need to be conscientious and intentional with the tech we bring home, to protect and educate future generations. Technology is not intended to divert our attention, but rather to grant us the freedom to dedicate more time to the genuinely meaningful moments in life.
Oh, one more thing. I want to be transparent and upfront with you about something important in my writing. English isn’t my first language. So to ensure effective communication and make the best use of my time, I’ll be utilizing the assistance of both ChatGPT 3.5 and Google Bard to write these articles. However, I can’t stress this enough, that while AI is a supportive tool in this process, it’s not the sole driver of the topics I’ll be discussing. I do review and edit all outputs to make my own. This allows me to convey my thoughts accurately and efficiently, granting me the precious gift of spending more quality time with my kids.
And now, I’m excited to share my insights and experiences with all of you. My aim is to simplify things for you, helping you save time and offering valuable insights that I’ve gained along the way. Wish me luck!
